I am thrilled to introduce yet another new and exciting opportunity for our students to participate in an international exchange during their time here at Mount View High School. Our newest partnership is with the Corazonistas School in Valledolid, Spain. This is a regular public school serving grades 5-12 in a small city in the northwest of Spain. The Boards of both schools have now formally approved the partnership, with an intention to exchange visits of small groups of students next school year.
We will hold an informational meeting about this opportunity on the evening of Tuesday, February 27, in the MVHS-MVMS library. This meeting is for any parents, students, or staff members who would like to learn more about the program. In the meantime, here are the general details:
Late September-Early October, 2024 (next fall)-- Spanish group (up to 15 students and 2 teachers) will come to Maine, stay with RSU 3 host families, and participate in our school and community life. Duration of visit: 2-3 weeks
February, 2025 (school vacation plus the preceding week): RSU 3 group (approximately the same size as the Spanish group) will travel to Valledolid, Spain, stay with host families, and participate in school and family life. Duration of visit: 2 weeks
The cost of the program will depend upon a number of factors, including the amount of fundraising done by the group. Participating students will primarily self-fund, but the only major costs are transportation, insurance, and incidental spending money.
If interested, please contact me at tgray@rsu3.org with any questions, or simply plan on attending the informational meeting.
Cultural immersion, whether traveling or hosting, is one of the most meaningful and enduring learning opportunities we can offer to our students, and I am so gratified to see this coming to fruition at Mount View-- building on the strong tradition already established by Frau Mussatti and the GAPP Program. Looking forward to a groundswell of interest!
